PROJECT- “ROPON”
Paschim Gabtola falls under Kultali block in South 24 parganas, West Bengal and its nearest town is Jaynagar which is 28 kms from this place. A small unrecognisable village where a couple stays, who themselves do not know how to read and write! Introducing Basudev, a daily labour working somewhere in Southern part of India and his wife Padma who takes care of her daily household duties. But they had a dream anddecided to open a primary school in their own land so the next generation children from their village get a chance to get basic primary education. They built this school Vidyasagar Sishu Niketan with their nominal savings and hired 2 teachers. Their journey was not smooth but with years it progressed andpresently 50+ students are enrolled taking primary education from this school! Padaskhep’skey mission is to provide education, improve school infrastructure, cleanliness, clothing, health, and create opportunities for play and recreation. When ideas, thoughts and values synchronise they join hands to build a prosperous tomorrow. Padakshep, decided to support this school with all infrastructure, education, teaching, sports programs under their project Ropon.In last 3-4 years, Padaskhep team worked diligently with the
school teachers and Basudev & Padma, to develop and improve facilities, offer dresses, sweaters to children, organise annual sports. Teachers are given basic training by experienced professional in the field and primary education books are shared for better learning. School building renovation, constructing new approach road to school and a complete bathroom unit was sponsored by Padakshep. Further developmental planningis underway. This is a MODELSCHOOL project for Padakshep and our endeavour is to develop and create more such success stories in primary education field.
